The Crew Manager’s role is the first step into a management role that still requires the individual to carry out the same operational competencies as a Firefighter but also has an additional requirement in their role to carry out:

  • Implement action as Incident Commander to resolve an incident
  • Debrief personnel to review and learn from the incident
  • Deliver training and assessments to improve and measure performance by:
    • presenting information to watch members/learners
    • organise and implement practical activities to aid learning
    • measure the performance of watch members/learners

As well as the above being part of the support role to the Watch Manager, they also support the management of the watch, carry out administration tasks and are able to lead a small team of Firefighters when carrying out specific tasks or take charge of small incidents.

Crew Manager (Control)

The Crew Manager (Control) role is the first step into a management role. It still requires the individual to carry out the same operational competencies as a Firefighter (Control) but also has additional requirements in their role to carry out:

  • Support the Watch Manager (Control) to resolve an incident
  • Debrief personnel to review and learn from the incident
  • Deliver training and assessments to improve and measure performance by
    • presenting information to watch members/learners
    • organise and implement practical activities to aid learning
    • measure the performance of watch members/learners

As well as the above being part of the support role to the Watch Manager, they also support the management of the watch, carry out administration tasks and are able to lead a small team of Firefighters (Control) when carrying out specific tasks.
